In the past 2 years I started noticing all sorts of changes in my body and my brain. I did test my hormones, as that was what these transformations seemed more related to, yet every time my lab results were within normal limits.
From a combination of “you are too young to be perimenopausal”, with no modifications of my tests, I started growing worried as I didn’t know what was happening to me. Always very much in touch with my body and aware of what’s going on with it, I started thinking, and of course, googling all possible causes, and I even considered losing my mind there for a second.
Luckily for me, an amazing doctor, after carefully listening to my complaints, told me to do the DUTCH test, as the standard laboratory tests were not sensitive enough. I collected the samples for the test on 2 consecutive days, as instructed, and on the third day I went to the lab in my city as well to test the blood levels of my hormones. And you guessed right: while the DUTCH test proved I am perimenopausal, my lab tests were once again within normal limits.
Not at all a cheap option, and by no means covered by the insurance (why would it be, it’s just menopause, right?) it gave me the answers I was looking for, and it reassured me that I am not going crazy!
I would like to know why in the 21st century we don’t have good enough and accessible regular tests such as women all over the world can at least get the right diagnosis.
